Books set in Extreme Environments
Just as well you can travel to places in books as there are some regions and areas of the world that I would really prefer not to go to in real life. Climb a mountain? Fly through the air in a hot air balloon? What about cave diving?
Well, what about doing all of these things but from the safety of a page. No harness needed. But given the vivid descriptions contained within said pages, you might need to hold on tight …..

Up a mountain covered in ice and snow
The Retreat
Pros
A retreat
What a view!
Rest and relaxation
Cons
Someone dies….and you are stranded, miles from anywhere
In a remote snowed-in cabin
Misery
Pros
You have an accident but are quickly rescued
A passing nurse rescues you and looks after you in a cabin.
She gives you pills and wants you well again
Cons
You’re rescued by a nutter. The nurse injures you more than the accident
She traps you there and tortures you….
In the middle of the Rockies
Nowhere Burning
The town is called Nowhere. It was built by Catriona Ward. That should tell you everything you need to know…..;)
Pros
Its the stunning and beautiful Rocky Mountains!
Cons
Catriona Ward is not far behind you …carrying trauma and fear in her backpack.
Underground in abandoned caves
Just as well this is in Spanish as English speakers are spared the fear of being trapped in underground caves 😉
The mines have been abandoned for decades, but when the night is still and calm in the Montes de Hierro, the echo of the desperate cries from those souls entombed in the ground can be heard…..
Up a Japanese mountain
Murder at Mount Fuji
You would think exploring a famous Japanese mountain would be amazing…
Pros
You get to stay in a luxurious mansion at the foot of Mount Fuji.
Cons
Someone gets stabbed….
Alma Negra
