Travel Tuesday -Scandi getaways

  • Submitted: 25th September 2018

There’s always time for some books set in Scandinavia and today’s Travel Tuesday selection rounds up a few visits to the Scandinavian countries, you’re going to love. They take you to some very different places and illustrate some very different legends and cultural experiences!

Ever wanted to see the Northern Lights?

Northern lights Darcie Boleyn

Book: Love at the Northern Lights

Holiday: visitnorway.com

Review on a postcard:  Romantic, uplifting and it really makes you want to head to the Northern Lights in search of your own Viking looking man ( or woman!)

See Bergen through the eyes of a dogged, determined detective…

Book: See all the Varg Veum books

Holiday: visitnorway.com/bergen

Review on a postcard:  There’s lots to see in Bergen but if you take the books with you, you’ll really get to see a different and unique side to the city. There’s even a statue of the man himself – leaning against the wall of a hotel so you can go and meet him for yourself! Pretty cool having a statue of your character in his very own city. A must see if you head out here!

Red Snow

Red Snow

Sweden

Visit the forests with their Dark Pines and be careful of the red snow….

Books: Dark Pines and Red Snow

Holiday: Visit Gothenburg (As Gavrik where the books are set is fictional but it’s not far from those woods not far from Gothenburg)

Review on a postcard:  Now, Red Snow might not be out yet, but it’s that good, it’s going on the list of books to have in your list of books to read when the snow falls for maximum effect. Oh and you really need to get some Swedish liquorice to accompany it.

Blood Cruise

Take a cruise across the Baltic sea…

Book:Blood Cruise

Holiday: visitstockholm.com/ferries-and-cruise-ships/

Review on a postcard: Thankfully the reality of a cruise on the Baltic is SO much nicer and safer than the one in the book!

Palm Beach Finland

Ever consider a beach holiday in Finland?

Book: Palm Beach Finland

Holiday: Coastal towns in Finland

Review on a postcard: Antti has one wicked sense of humour and this is no more apparent than in this book. It’s dark, humourous and darkly humourous. And you’ll be buying an inflatable flamingo before you know it

Secret passages in a hillside town

Secret passages in a hillside town

A secret hideaway in the Finnish hills

Book: Secret Passages in a Hillside Town

Holiday:  visitjyvaskyla.fi/en

Review on a postcard: You might not be able to pronounce the town’s name but the book is very easy reading and quirky too. You won’t forget your visit, that’s for sure

So, that’s TheBooktrail’s six for Scandinavia this Travel Tuesday. Currently, I’m in  Tallfors, Sweden with a Christmassy kind of read. More on that later….
