Book (Trail) of the Month – October 2026

A book that stood out this month?

A sad farewell to this fine read and the series!

The Corpse on the Bristol Train Edward Marston

The book?

The Corpse on the Bristol Train

Why?

It’s been a dream to read this series and I have such fond memories of the train journeys I read them on or the platforms I read them on when waiting for a train or a friend. I’m nothing if not method!

What to love

Detective Inspector Robert Colbeck is the Railway Inspector and he has an assistant called Sergeant Victor Leeming. They work at Scotland Yard but they go all around the country to solve crimes which take place in or on the early railways. You get to see the railways as they were and the trains when train travel was almost an art form. Oh how I wish this series could be filmed – the interiors of the trains and the costumes of the passengers would be reason enough to watch!
