Le Crime du Paradis – Guillaume Musso

Le Crime du Paradis

Destination

Cap d’Antibes. One of the most stunning places in the world. It really is paradise with its clean sandy beaches, posh white houses dotted along the coast, mountains and the clear blue water of the sea. The area is home to many rich people in real life, so to have a posh American couple live there in the novel is apt.

But then their baby goes missing…taken from a window like the Lindbergh baby!

Review

You may have seen the socials where I purposely went to France to buy this book. Well, it felt mad but right…so off I went. The thrill of this was something else. I wanted to go as the book is set in Cap d’Antibes and  I know the area well and have friends there.

The novel – is very Agatha Christie and is a cross between one of her novels and an examination of the Lindbergh case. It’s not a retelling by any means, but that fear of a missing child, a rich house and a cast of characters who could be involved are all here.

It’s pacy but also slow in many places but it mirrors the pace of a normal investigation which for me worked. The mystery of the baby even takes a back seat sometime as we get to know those who worked in the house and around about. There’s lots of real places in the book such as the Hotel Cap D’Eden Roc and since this is iconic and well known for various reasons in real life, I particularly loved the mystery around it here.

It’s crafted well, building tension and torture as you really don’t know what could have happened to the baby. The why came out slowly too and there were many red herrings along the way.

I am dying to read this again in English! That magic that only the Cap d’Antibes has, needs to be read and enjoyed by all!

Well worth travelling to France for!
