World Book Day

A time to encourage children to read of course but a great day for book lovers everywhere! Every day is book day really when you think about it, but today is a day where books and reading are celebrated and some people (kids) even dress up.

Last week I was in Prague to do the Dan Brown BookTrail amongst other things but to see some of the most stunning libraries I had only heard and read about. So, I hopped on a plane and saw the following beauties.

(Can I just say that Prague and these libraries are up lots of stairs so if you do visit just be prepared – I had to buy a book on the way down as a treat)

The main library of the Strahov Monastery….

Then a short walk down a bookish corridor to this beauty…imagine working in a room like this! Oh the sight of this in real life was quite something and the scent of the library….divine.

I found this so impressive. I know everyone goes to the Sistine Chapel and that IS amazing – but just look at this!

The Klementium Tower is also a sight to behold – even more steps to this library – and you have to go up a spiral staircase with gaps in the stairs. So, if you are scared or nervous of heights…..

Quite dark as the books are sleeping our guide said. I loved him instantly.

I have to say these two libraries are two of the most impressive I have ever been to..so far. Very reminiscent of the dream library in Beauty and the Beast! I tried to stay longer but was almost hauled away by the guide….still I couldn’t take my eyes of them!

If you get to go to Prague…see these libraries, take sensible shoes and vertigo tablets 😉

So, that was Prague in a nutshell. Got to see some very fancy sights thanks to Dan Brown and The Secret of Secrets and also bought two other books set in Prague for a very different experience altogether. More on that to come!
