Review
Oh this was emotional! A woman who has only just lost her husband two years ago is trying to live again. Grief is so raw and I admired her from the start to try and move on, with memories of a difficult marriage on top of that. When she thinks back to her first love, she heads to Greece and well, its a story of lost love, memories, reliving ones past and shaping your future.
Kardamyli was lovely to get to know. Not a location I had even heard of if I’m honest. What a gorgeous place! I want to go there now. Meet Alexandros perhaps 😉 I was very keen to find out why Ellen left the island and her man in the first place. That was a great plot in the book with a very satisfying denouement.
A novel that will resonate with so many on so many levels – and can we just celebrate the gorgeous fragrance of the story and setting.
The author says:
A beautiful village on the Mani Peninsula with crystal clear, salty, azure waters, an imposing mountain landscape where grumbles of thunder boom between the peaks and cobbled alleyways and streets to explore. I love the shop that’s called simply “Bread & Sugar”
It is one of my favourite places in Greece and so we head to this corner of the mainland from May 7th to follow Ellen’s adventures as she returns to the village for the first time in 36 years, recreating her teenage road trip with her best friend that they took together when they were 18 years old.
