Local Heavens – a map of New York 2075
Local Heavens – New York 2075
This is a trail to the future but also to the past. It’s a reimagining of Gatsby but in a steampunk futuristic way.
Wild? Yes. Different. Oh yes. Unique and memorable – Definately!

With this being a cyberpunk retelling of The Great Gatsby, the location might still be New York and Long Island but that’s where the similarities end!
The world building was very special indeed. Now even if you don’t ‘do’ sci fi, you’re going to appreciate the effort and detail here. That’s quite a journey you go on here. It’s a map into the world, the current one as we live now and the one that we are building (good or bad). The technology has taken over and we are in danger from it in ways we have not imagined. But this world….is a scary one. This is the glamour of Gatsby with the darkness of….a world where technology and Big Brother has taken over….and changed the rules.
Great Sands or West Egg?
The setting

Though the novel’s West Egg and East Egg are fictional, it is apparently an open secret that they were inspired by Great Neck and Sands Point.

What are the themes of the novel?
It’s all very high tech, virtual reality and AI simulation so the world building is something else. The writing brings out the old decadence but changes certain references and classic lines to represent the new reality.
Themes are the same as old – jealousy, envy, capitalism, the blurred lines between physical and virtual realities.
Key quote:

BookTrail Review
Even if you haven’t read the original, you are going to feast on this. If you have, you’ll get a different sense of things but on another level. This is a great example of a novel that pushes boundaries and leaves them in the dirt to be honest. It’s different…very different to what I have read before but it’s The Great Gatsby in another form. It’s experimental and cyberpunk and futuristic. It made me think and wonder and escape reality for a while. Just what a good book should do.
Oh this is West Egg and Long Island but not as you know it!
