Book (Trail) of the Month – July 2025
Book (Trail) of the Month
Where is good to travel in July via a book? There is one that stood out.
The Art of a Lie – Laura Shepherd Robinson
The book?
A woman who owns a confectionary shop is pushed into poverty when her husband dies. There was money in her husband’s bank account but it has been confiscated for being of dubious origin. There’s a magistrate on the case who will go to any lengths it seems to destroy her and her husband’s image. Enter a man by the name of William Devereux. He is a friend of her late husband and might be the answer to her prayers. Of course, he could be the worst thing to ever happen to her as well.
Why?
Ever since I read The Fingersmith and The Little Stranger, I have wanted a book that wraps up the taunt plotting with the gripping plots , the complex characters and the spooky atmosphere of both books. Well, this book does it and more!
This book is a cat and mouse game and it’s a brilliant, genius book. READ IT NOW!!!
What to love
More shocks than you can cope with
Well drawn characters
A London of cobblestones and horses that comes to life from the page!
Such rich, crisp writing
A book you will want to read again immediately after finishing!
