Thriller set in a Bavarian resort – Sarah Goodwin

  • Submitted: 28th August 2023

This book is set in the Bavarian mountains and I was immediately onboard. You don’t get many novels set on ski resorts in Germany. What would this bring? What would it mean? I was intrigued to find out.

Fancy a holiday in Bavaria?

A couple are on their way to a wedding when their car breaks down. Not ideal especially when they are stuck in the moutains of Bavaria. Miles from anywhere, they mwnage to find a cabin to shelter for the night. Trouble is, when the woman wakes up, she realises the husband is nowhere to be seen.

That was a stonking premise I thought and a very entertaining reading experience would result. Oh and it does. I was trapped with Mila as she searches for her husband Ethan. Imagine how you would think? What you would do? It’s hard to be in that situation with her ……only then to find a body….

There’s lots going on here and the landscape really adds to the uncertainty of it all. It’s hard out there, remote and she doesn’t really know where she is. There are mountains, bad weather and the shadows are all around. There’s a huge creepy factor throughout this novel and it’s wonderfully twisted.

The latter part of the book, and the ending disappointed a bit as I got annoyed with Mila talking about the wedding more than she should have. There’s a  dead body here woman! Your husband is missing! Never mind a wedding!

There’s lots to like here for sure. Oh it’s a slow burning crafty suspense and it will stay with you.
