  • Submitted: 21st July 2018

Sunday might be the last day of the festival but you know what they say about keeping the best till last? That’s just why the panel of Northern Cold Climes is going to chill you before you leave to head home

Ann Cleeves and Steph McGovern.

Why do cold climates inspire such gory thrills?

Yrsa Sigurðardóttir is the author of the Gudmundsdóttir series, and has been dubbed Iceland’s answer to Stieg Larson.

Samuel Bjørk is often compared to fellow Norwegian, Jo Nesbo. He comes from Oslo and is the author of Scandinavia’s bestselling Munch and Krüger series – The Owl Always Hunts at Night is his latest.

Vera and Shetland BookTrails

Ann Cleeves  likes her characters facing all kinds of cold climates as well as crimes – In Cold Earth set in Shetland, torrential rain, leads to a gruesome discovery. Meanwhile in Northumberland, Vera is ready for the British weather with her trench coat and floppy hat; The Seagull is set in the chilly seaside town of Whitley Bay.

And just one more thing…

Columbo might have said this famous phrase but another detective from the past is still alive and well thanks to Sophie Hannah. “It takes a brave author to crack the Christie code.” An internationally bestselling crime novelist in her own right and Christie fan, Sophie Hannah rose to the Hercule-ian challenge with her bestselling Poirot novels.

Hope you all enjoyed Harrogate – Starting tomorrow – The Weekend that was…
