Where else could The BookTrail take you today than Iceland? It’s the week that some of the crime fiction fraternity head over to Iceland in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and the Greenland sea for Iceland Noir!

Iceland+Noir+2018

And it’s set to be a great festival this year – lots of fine panels,  a screening of the film of I REMEMBER YOU by Yrsa Sigurdardottir , a special panel on New Icelandic Authors and of course, the coveted ice pick award…

So, some Icelandic treats to look forward to or to discover if you haven’t already…and you are in for  a treat either way!

So, what is there to chill your bones as you read Iceland Noir?

YRSA SIGURDARDOTTIR

This lady knows how to dial up the gore factor but it always comes with a gripping plot and well-developed characters so she’s forgiven 😉

Ragnar - Iceland Noir

Darkness Ragnar JonassonRAGNAR JONASSON

Ragnar learnt English using Agatha Christie novels and he’s been a fan of the iconic writer ever since. So, I love the fact that he’s on a panel about the great lady herself. Not only that, it’s moderated by non other than another HUGE crime fiction fan..the Prime Minister of Iceland! Imagine a British politician talking about books?

Lilja - Iceland Noir

Lilja – Iceland Noir

LILJA SIGURDARDOTTIR

This lady might look innocent 😉 but inside her novels, she crafts a rope around the readers neck and pulls hard. There’s grit and then there’s grit, action and anger until you can’t breathe. Drug smuggling, problems of society and a sharp eye for observation. That’s what this lady brings to the Icelandic table…

That’s not all of course….why not try some of these Icy novels for some more Icelandic flavour…

The SealWoman’s Gift

A story based on a raid on Iceland in 1627 by Algerian and Moroccan pirates which resulted in many Icelanders being killed and 400  sold as slaves in Algiers. It’s one of the most traumatic events in Icelandic history and it;’s not hard to see why.

The Sealwoman's Gift

Jo ThomasWhy not see the Northern lights when you’re there?

Jo Thomas is your perfect guide! In this story, Ruby Knightly, wardrobe mistress , has been sent to Iceland on a very special mission that could save her opera company’s opening night. Will her fear of the dark – and the incoming weather – get in her way though?

With so many literary treats in store, this is going to be a weekend of action as tightly packed as that Icelandic Ice..

Enjoy! and Happy Travels!
