International Booker Prize
International Booker Prize
This is one of the most exciting book awards of the year if you love translated fiction and stories that transcend borders.
This is some of the most exciting fiction to come out in the publishing world and you REALLY need to read some if not all of this list. With it, you will travel to Taiwan, France, Brazil, Tehran, Albania and also Germany, Vienna with a little bit of Hollywood thrown in.

These six stories are so very different and it’s very hard to pick a clear winner. All are good in their own right and I really can’t call it!
A personal favourite however has to be The Director – this is the imagined story of real life director G.W. Pabst and his involvement with Goebbels and the film industry both in Hollywood, Germany and Austria. Having just read the book La Mirada del Mar by Spanish author Reyes Monteforte which looks at the film actress Leni Riefenstahl who also appears in the novel, then it struck a nerve I guess.
The writing in all novels is strong – and be aware that if you read The Taiwan Travelogue you will be eating your weight in calories as you follow the tour in the novel. A story of two women who form a unique bond as they cross Taiwan on a journey to remember.
Here is the list:
TEHRAN : The Nights Are Quiet in Tehran

GERMANY, VIENNA, HOLLYWOOD: The Director

BRAZIL – On Earth As It Is Beneath

FRANCE – The Witch
Take your pick….and wait to see what book crossed the final border….and which author and translator share the coveted prize…..
Be sure to check out the Booker Prize Website here and keep your ears open for the big reveal on Tuesday 19th May at 10.05 pm
