The Library in the Park
The Library in the Park
A stunning discovery during a visit to Madrid was what I still call The Library in the Park. Its a public library situated in the gorgeous El Retiro Park in the centre of Madrid. Very unique not only for its location but its architecture. It’s almost all glass and doesn’t look like a library – more like a building you would expect to see in a garden.

Funnily enough, its actually situated in a former greenhouse/birdhouse near the park’s entrance. Locals come here to sit and read inside and in the ornate garden outside it. It’s an unexpected discovery inside an already iconic park and it felt like a really magical discovery.

The Eugenio Trías Municipal Public Library (Biblioteca Pública Municipal Eugenio Trías) is the main library located inside El Retiro Park in Madrid. Situated in a former greenhouse/birdhouse near the park’s entrance, it offers a scenic, quiet spot for reading and working, featuring glass walls with views of the surrounding trees.
Just look at the comfy chairs, the cushions on the floor and imagine sitting there reading, dreaming and falling inside a book. I would be distracted and that’s saying something. The scent of the trees here is something I will never forget.
Such an unusual place to stumble across a bookish setting but one I am so pleased I did! Sadly closed when I was there, but I will be back!
