A novel to transport you to Former Yugoslavia and Croatia

This is a book with a simple premise but a story that fans out into something more. It’s essentially about a missing seventeen year old. However, this book takes care to weave the threads of history and politics in Croatia to form a background that you can’t take your eyes off.
What I really liked was that the story really feels as if it’s a true crime drama . The missing girl is not the focus of the novel but this is the story of her friends, family and how the disappearance has affected everyone.
The country setting, the history and the expectation mixed with mystery really ramped up a straight forward missing person story and made it into something else entirely.
You really need to take a bite out of Bitter Lemon Press – they publish some fascinating and very unique authors and translated fiction.
