A novel to transport you to a grand estate in Yorkshire

There are lots of reading feels in this book. Dual timeline, a mesmerising writing style, an evocative way of describing things. The writer transports you with her words and emotions wrapped in words. I was wearing that yellow dress on the cover and dancing up the stairs of a beautiful castle as well by the end of the story.

It’s partly set in 1924 and the way the author invites you into this world is just……luscious! There’s a castle, a girl experiencing her first love, stunning gardens and more besides. Then the modern day storyline and a mysterious letter arrives.. Well that just sums up what I love in a book – a great location and setting, a mystery, dual time line and the ability to just lose myself in another time and place.

The novel itself is like a dance – the two timelines dance around each other pulling you one way and another. How will these two steps come together? Well, they do. There might be a few moves you were expecting on that dance floor, but the author guides both of you where you need to be.

Sitting on the edge of the dance floor after the performance and I am tired but happy having been whirled around within an inch of my life. What a beautiful and captivating read.
