French Book Haul

First stop on my mega Xmas book haul was Paris. Just the airport and just an hour layover but I do like a challenge! There are two bookshops between my landing gate and my departure gate. The clock is ticking and I, like a book athlete, am primed for the race.

Go!

I head to the first one – my eyes dart over each and every title. Some of them packed a little tight for my likening but I am a pro, I can do this.

The haul

First one found – Kate Morton of course – There are certain authors I collect in many languages andKate Morton is one of them. Homecoming is out in pocket paperback, so that went in the basket. It’s called ‘The shadows of the Adelaide Hills’ in French which I thought was interesting.

Lisa Jewell – None of This is True

I really wanted a Lisa Jewell in French as the way she writes I felt would translate very well and this story in particular would be good in French. It’s on my bookcase ready to read. Next chance I get to meet Lisa Jewell, I would love it signed!

John Langan – House of Windows

Ok so I MAY have picked this up for the very shiny cover 😉 but I bought it because of this line:

“Mirrors hold more than reflections. There are corners in them around which we do not—we dare not—see,”

An old house? mentions of Dickens? Historical fiction with a twist? Sign me UP!

Marc Levy – La librairie des livres interdits

Marc is one of my favourite authors in French. I bought Symphony of Monsters which is out in English this Feb I believe? This is called The Bookshop of Banned Books and well, was it the title or the cover that made me pop it in the basket? Who can say?

Guillaume Musso – Someone Else

The tagline is:

“There are three versions of the truth – my truth, your truth and the actual truth”

Guillaume had me at this very line so in the basket it went. A woman is killed on a yacht sailing off the coast of the French Riviera. Her husband tells one story, his mistress another and the policewoman another. But then we also get the story of the dead woman herself which she started to tell in the days leading up to her death….
