London yes of course but here we are heading to Sherlock Holmes London through the eyes of his housekeeper Mrs Hudson. It’s great seeing a setting, location and other characters through the eyes of another character. This series gets better and better.

The title comes from an armaments tycoon in the book Charles Belladonna. With a name like that I had imagined a case around poison. What IS it with me and poison lately?

I do love this series. Mrs Hudson was a favourite when I was reading the originals so it’s delightful to meet her like this and to spend so much time with her. The book is so well written and set up that I was in the house and kitchen wirth her and could smell the cooking! I also got a few stern looks from her too I;m sure. But she’s such a good lead character and I am just so pleased that Martin Davies has brought her to the fore.
This seems darker than other books in the series. I mean I was going back and forth from 221B Baker Street where I lived with Mrs Hudson to the War Office whilst trying to fight off men claiming to have a stake in a large fortune. I was very busy in this book. Luckily I knew I could trust Mrs Hudson to keep me safe. As she did. But what an adventure before that!
Quite sad to say goodbye to her at the end of the book. I hear this is the last in the series? I really hope not!
