Camelot and the Lady of the Lake
Camelot and the Lady in the Lake
Such a legendary location….but one that remains as mysterious as the legends attached to it. No one really knows where it is. Having read the book by Jean Menzies, it’s even more of a mystery but one wrapped in even more intrigue and magic that I could ever have imagined.

This book is everything that I hoped it would be. When I first started it, I had little to no understanding of the Arthurian legend but that soon changed!
I met Viviane, a maiden who is sent to capture the heart and hand of Prince Arthur. Soon however, she sets her sights on Morgan, Arthur’s sister.. An interesting angle from the off and whilst I didn’t think this was going to be my cup of tea, I was soon mistaken!

Viviane and Morgan’s relationship was a bubbling undercurrent throughout the story. The scenes they shared were some of the most atmospheric and poignant in the whole book. I was left wanting to know what they were talking about off the page. Fascinating insights into both of them.
I realise this book is made up of legends and myths and not all of them were known to me, but this book has left me with a thirst to discover more legends, fables and myths. If the location is a mystery too then so much the better! Always happen to search maps from across the ages!
I wasn’t expecting a sapphic retelling of an Arthurian legend to have quite an effect on me, but then I love literary surprises!
