Bookmarks – a collection

Bookmarks

Who else collects bookmarks? I collect them from everywhere. I have some that advertise the book or those from bookshops. I keep them all as memories – like postcards but without the words. A portal if you like that takes you through to a world of books.

I remember visiting all of these shops – from left to right

Mistral in Madrid – London Review of Books – Criminally Good Books, York – Livraria Lello, Porto and The Little Apple Bookshop in York. Then the lovely find that was Libreria books in London’s Whitechapel!

Every time I look at one of these, I remember going to that store, the tingle of the bell on the door, the aroma of it as I walked in, the way it made me feel and of course, the book or books I came home with. You know those little paper sticks in perfume shops that you use to help you remember the scent? Well these are my  bookish perfume sticks and they last for ever!!!

And then there’s ones that you get with a particular book…………..

I love these little pieces of art – When I read that book, I have to use that bookmark. If not, it’s like going to Aldi with an Asda bag for life. Don’t know why, but it’s just wrong. I love the variety of these bookmarks – from the artistry of the Isabel Allende one to the shiny letters of The Silence Factory. Got to love Hunted though for its unusual shape

What do bookmarks mean to you?
