A novel to transport you to Rathlin Island, Ireland

I was intrigued when I came across this novel set on a tiny island of the coast of Ireland. Rathlin Island is a small place and away from the mainland. It’s steeped in history and legends but for Mark and Kat, they are hoping it is going to be a place to escape it all. They’ve bought a cottage, escaped their life in London and life is going to change for the better….Well…..

The other good thing about the location is that it’s close to Mark’s eldery mother. So time away from London and close to family. Trouble is, there is something wrong with the house from the start. But what, exactly? The weather isn’t exactly welcoming but there’s a sense of foreboding from the start, and that’s just for the reader!

I felt a keen sense of claustrophobia from the start and the way the author creates tension with the weather and the landscape is very good. I couldn’t decide who to trust or what to trust. There are secrets just flying out around you as you read. Some you catch and the others you see flit away knowing you’ve seen something but not quite sure what….

There’s lots of chilling weirdness going on with the people in this novel. And it’s delicious finding out.
