Review

What would you do if you and your child went and spent the night in a remote cabin and in the morning, she had disappeared?

Then the phone rings…..but it’s not her. The caller knows all about her though. And you.

That’s the thrilling premise here and I was ready for the road trip with more twists than I could shake a stick at. When that door got stuck and refused to close properly in the first chapters, I KNEW this was not going to end well 😉

The phone rings but it’s a mobile she finds under a pillow. Come and find your daughter the voice says. Then a video is delivered and a chilling message….

Well now, I was terrified and hooked by this point. Remind me never to head to a cabin or reading retreat with Gillian McAllister though! For what might follow is the situation she put me in here – chasing leads, running around in the desert trying to find my child, phoning England for help, going to the meeting point the kidnappers have told me to….

Oh but the fear didn’t end there! Oh no! Gillian had me hotfooting it to Mexico and taking part in my own literary equivalent of Banged up Abroad. Does this lady never sleep? Never thought I would agree to be a drug mule but there you go.

How far are you willing to go? Gillian kept shouting at me during the book. Her words spilled out on the page and gobbled me up one by one. I was helpless. They might as well have been ropes for all the free will I had for my actions. I tried to stop reading, but my eyes had also gone to the dark side. Darn that woman!

I was worn out by the end. No spoilers here but just let’s say Gillian McAllister is a genius. An evilly dark one at that. But I would like to meet her and shake her hand. Far away from any desert, cabin or mobile phones however……
