Bookish New Year Resolutions

What are your New Year resolutions? I always make a few as I always want to continue to find good books and travel via great book maps so am always raring to go again once the Christmas rest is over and the New Year is almost here.

Books to plan your escape

After a dismal 2025 on a personal level, I have had a very restorative end of year break and and am back with even more energy and passion for books than ever. I AM SO EXCITED for my 2026 reading year in so many ways. Oh and the books I was gifted and that found me over the holidays are exceptional. Events and bookfairs all fresh and waiting to be explored. EXCITING TIMES! Books have rescued me many a time and this year they are going to bring me back to the land of the living AND the land of great literary adventures………….

Still no reading challenges

For or against? Personally, I just like to read and never set a number I want to achieve. It just feels too much like school and added pressure in life I don’t need. They work great for many people though and it can encourage reading, so I don’t put them down! Just not for me. I do like to challenge myself with reading new things however but it’s all for enjoyment.

A greater variety of genres to be exploreds

The BookTrail always tries to showcase the best books with the best locations. There are reviews of course, but the maps and content are to show what is out there across the vast sea of fiction and non fiction of all kinds. A mood reader and someone who loves reading for pleasure, I read what catches my eye and publicise what hits the mark with that book and travel overview.

I always start the year wanting to read a bigger range from a wider range of writers and indies. Oh and countries so the Book Trailer is packed and ready to go on even more adventures.

More worlds of words to explore

Learning Dutch at the moment and getting better at reading so a few more novels have popped onto my TBR pile. When learning a language, I tend to go for novels that I have already read in English so that I can quickly learn the words and phrases I already ‘recognise’.  There are so many good novels not yet translated in several languages and so The BookTrail likes to go underground  as it were and find them. Oh and there are a few on the list now!

Translated fiction is and always will be a favourite of mine so expect more of that on the blog and website this year!

More travel

There are plenty more bookshops I want to visit around the world. So a resolution is to try and visit some more bookish nooks from around the world this year.

More maps

Maps are a HUGE part of The BookTrail of course so expect to see maps of all shapes and sizes featured this year plus a new direction in many ways….

I have many more resolutions and plans for The BookTrail which have been bubbling away for a while so once they are polished, I will be showcasing them here. It’s a site that keeps evolving, and where I take feedback and suggestions of all kinds on board. I have received some very fine comments this year and they have been swirling in my mind ever since…

And we are going to be having some fun competitions and giveaways. Time to start giving back more to you lovely lot now I have my energy back.

Happy New Year all and happy reading as we approach 2026
