A novel to transport you to the South of France

Oh I enjoyed this one. A 17 year old girl is found dead in the family pool in France. Her six year old sister is the only witness at a trial where the babysitter is convicted. Now, when you have a babysitter and a small child witness in a novel, anything can happen……. and it does.
This felt intriguing from the start. The villa, the locations, the sun…and you just know that when there’s a hot summer. something is going to happen. You can also imagine years later, and a TV show documenting the case then and now. This is so up my street I thought!
Katie’s writing felt fresh and very fitting for this type of intriguing tale. There’s red herrings, snippets of conversations, of thoughts as to what happened that fateful night. It was like being there for real. It felt very relatable, the way we all like to watch and learn about true crime, solving cases from our armchairs.
This is just a fizz bomb of a novel. Like one of those bath bombs that look all nice and clean at first before fizzing and causing ripples, colourful ripples you did not expect.
The heat added to the ferocity of what happens here. Tension is most definitely in the air.
