Sarlat-la-Canéda/Dordogne
While the central location, Chateau Rousseau, is a fictional manor house, the author has said on social media that it was inspired by a real manor house she visited in the region during her research.
She has also referred to the very real Château de Montfort, which she said has a ghost like feel to it and this probably also influenced the novel
