And with no leads Detective Ian Bradshaw has precious little time.

Grange Moor (fictional)  Durham

Jenna is the one who comes to the small Durham village to live:

Grange Moor needed a shop, so the villagers had given her a cautious welcome, keeping their distance whilst they waited to see what changes she would bring about.

She realises she’s not going to be totally accepted but she admits she’s going to be tolerated. Life here gives her a sense of calm however after what she’s been through and where she’s been.

The novel in general is set in Durham. The author says:

“My characters all live in Durham City. Tom and Ian seem to spend a good deal of their time in city centre pubs like The Market Tavern and The Shakespeare or walking up the cobbled hill towards Durham Cathedral. Ian Bradshaw even interviewed one of the lucky undergraduates who get to live in the castle opposite. “
