Travel Guide

In a dark, dark wood there was a dark, dark house…..

The setting of a Dark Dark wood is exactly what it says on the tin – a dark dark wood, in the middle of nowhere, in deepest darkest Northumberland somewhere and in the middle of your worst nightmare.

And in the dark dark house there was a dark, dark room….

A remote house with five people you barely know and a hen weekend with your former best friend. The weather is cold and chilling, the phone reception none existent and even if you dare to venture too far in the hope that you will come across a house or a neighbour of some sort, maybe even try climbing to the hill to see a bit further, maybe to get your phone to work, this is a place where no one can hear you scream.

The sheep cropped moors and low hills.

It’s the back of beyond up here, nothing but trees and hills

Following events which took place in those woods, the narrator of the story is lying in hospital.

And in the dark, dark room there was a dark dark cupboard…

She lies there battered and bruised with no real memory of what happened back there. A head injury the only outward sign.

And in the dark dark cupboard there was …..a skeleton

Booktrailer Review

Clare:

A great setting for a thriller – dark woods in the middle of nowhere, five friends, virtual strangers cut off from civilsation with no neighbours or outward signs of life within a few mile radius. What freaked me out was the fact that anyone could receive a random invite to a hen weekend that you might just be curious enough to go on. Never would you think it was something you would regret for more than a bad hangover or a blast from the past you wished you’d never seen again. But as Nora, now lying in hospital narrates, catching up with old friends out of curiosity could just be the worst decision of your life. A very gothic and Agatha Christie feel to the whole affair  as your curiosity gets you turning the pages. But remember what curiosity did to that cat?
