What you need to know before your trail

Precious Ramotswe is back at her ladies’ detective agency in Botswana in this, the second book in the very charming series.

In Tears of the Giraffe she tracks a wayward wife, uncovers an unscrupulous maid, and searches for an American man who disappeared into the plains many years ago.

But Precious has a lot more on her hands too. A marriage for one and the promotion of her secretary. She’ll no doubt cope though with her charm and sense of humour.

Travel Guide

Welcome to Kigali

Welcome to the home and place of work of Precious Ramotswe

Welcome indeed as only a few pages in and you will take Precious and her friends to your bosom. for never a nicer set of people have we met before. Oh to be drinking tea with her in the African sunlight!

Alexander McCall Smith has an infectious love and enthusiasm for a country he has been to many times and so clearly calls his own. This enthusiasm is infused into every page, their colour, the setting, the sights, sounds and smells of the country and the culture is amazing

Not a better literary tourist guide and tourist advert  for a country have we seen before. This second one in the series builds upon the Africa evoked in the first book and adds to the story too – getting to know Precious and her life and work with the Detective Agency is so much fun. The setting is as gentle as the crimes – don’t expect any horrific situations. The crimes here are those  that a small African village might suffer and its up to the people themselves to sort out in a community setting.

This book will take you deeper into the traditions of Botswana as well as giving some broader insight into African conflicts too.
