2025: a great series from two mighty fine crime writers
Psychologist and expert on body language and memory, Kari Voss investigates the murder of two teenaged girls in the small Norwegian town of Son, as suspicion is cast on multiple suspects. A mesmerisingly dark, twisty start to a nerve-shattering new series by two of the world’s finest crime writers…
Son
Son is located at the Oslofjord, 50 kilometres south of the Norwegian capital Oslo.
Son became famous back in the Renaissance era as a harbour. On many Dutch maps from that time, the Oslo fjord is noted as Zoon Water.
Later, Son became known as an ‘artist town’, as many well-known painters and writers have resided there
Johana Gustawsson and Thomas Enger are two of the best writers around so add them together and what do you get? A cracking if not disturbing thriller that’s what.
They’re both Scandi/French Noir but the result is even more than a sum of its parts. This is a very gripping and tightly woven read. I think parents out there will be particularly worried about some of the events in the book as it features a missing child.
What I loved most of all is the main character – Kari Voss who is a body language and memory expert working with the Oslo police force. What she comes across and gets involved with was truly fascinating as this is something I am really interested in and have studied.
The small town atmosphere was spot on. I have googled the heck out of Son and gone around the streets but to be fair, this novel is so immersive, I didn’t need to. What a place to set a first novel.
The novel was really something and packed a real punch. Wow. That last part especially. I have always loved both authors and now they are a literary match made in heaven.
