Pig Island

Why a Booktrail?

2000s: Just where is this mysterious and strange sounding island? we wanted to find out!

  • ISBN: 978-0553824865
  • Genre: Crime, Thriller

What you need to know before your trail

Joe Oakes is a reporter who has the enviable task of  exposing myths as frauds. He travels up to the North of Scotland to the (fictional) Pig Island where a video has been taken of the much talked of ‘ devil creature’ who stalks the island. Pig guts, and lots of them have been washed up on the shore and no one knows why.

The island is owned by a notorious hoax preacher and head of a ministry that disregards the benefits of modern medicine. This is a man who is now so strange that he lives apart from the others on the small island

Joe’s investigation in to what is going on in this small community is set to get a whole lot creepier

Travel Guide

Pig Island even sounds horrible and that’s even before you get the Mo Hayder treatment on your enjoyment of this fictional and utterly terrifying Scottish island.
But where is this Pig Island? well .you can apparently smell it before you see it

“Out on Jura or in Arduaine they’’ll all tell you the same thing. The smell of shite comes off Pig island, there’s no better proof of rituals than that.”

Its not just an island either –

“It’s an absence,  a dark space against the night sky. Pig island”

But the we find out a bit more about it –

“Pig Island , or as its called in Gaelic Cuagach Eilean lies in the small cup of sea at the edge of the Firth of Lorn, caught like a precious stone in a setting between Luing, Jura and Craignish Peninsula – like it’s been placed to clock the entry to the Sound of Jura.”

Shape of a peanut as well…..

This part of Scotland is renowned for stories of folklore and stories of old and so the idea that such strange ideas and rituals should be part of the islands here is a good one and an exciting premise.

On an island which will haunt you to your dying day.

A scenic and stunning part of Scotland – Mo Hayder style.
