What you need to know before your trail

Lady Athelinda Playford has planned a house party at her mansion in Clonakilty, County Cork, but it is no ordinary gathering. As guests arrive, Lady Playford summons her lawyer and asks him to make an urgent change to her will. She has decided to cut off her two children without a penny and leave her fortune to someone who has only weeks to live. And all this she is to announce at dinner that evening

Hercule Poirot and Inspector Edward Catchpool of Scotland Yard have been ivnited to this dinner but neither knows why they are there. Does Lady Playford expects a murderer to strike? Why?

Despite the assembled crowd and police presence, a crime is indeed committed,  but the victim is not who he expected it to be…

Travel Guide

Lady Playford’s Guide to Clonakilty

Of course the house and surroundings aren’t real except in the arena of the author and Poirot’s imagination. But there are a more than a few places in modern day Clonakilty where we imagine Lady Playford would love to show you around –

Clonakilty Bay

A lady would love a wander around the lake here

West Cork Model Railway Village

You can imagine you’re a lady yourself presiding over the entire village of small people here.

There is no stately home or mansion in or close to Clonakilty sadly but the best thing about visiting Clonakilty is that the Irish charm dances around you where ever you go and so if you close your eyes and imagine the large stately home and manor house, you may just see it appear as it by magic.
