Jen finds a home on the little Greek island of Tilos for herself and her dog, surrounded by hills and sea. Empty for five years, the house is hidden by fig trees, the olive trees are damaged by goats, but a few bunches of grapes still hang on the vine.
Learning how to care for her home and garden, she seeks more ways to be part of the community and traditions. Meanwhile, she embraces life with her canine friend.

“In the summer, the tavernas and hotels all open for the season and visitors start to arrive; the sea warms up and I start snorkelling and watching the fish; the sky fills with falcons and bee-eaters, and hoopoes and owls flit across the road; figs and grapes ripen to the sound of cicadas; the festivals begin with traditional music and dancing, the first held at the main monastery of Ayios Panteleimon, around Profitis Ilias mountain; we hunker down in the shade and take siestas, then in the cool of evening go for easy walks and sit in a seafront bar in the harbour of Livadia, enjoying the breeze.”
