Travel Guide

Bradford

A city on the edge in this novel. Bradford Central has caused the politicl turmoil and the MP Clive Clementon has resigned following the infamous Matchmaker case which involved many high profile celebraties being investigated for their role in historic chid abuse cases

Bradford’s multicultural edge

This novel reveals many unsettling and uncomfortable notions aout a city whose racism is filtering through into its politics and its reactions to crime against asian men.

The city was in a mess, the Matchmake fiasco last year had delivered a resounding blow to Bradford’s law and order, People felt uneasy. who they trust, if their public figures were corrupt? That combined with the recent gang murders, and the subsequent spotlight on the immigrants and the current spate of killings had bled the city dry and brougn drugs and prostitition to their midst. No wonder Bradford had voted for Brexit. In Bradford, the natives were restless

Hebden Bridge

There’s a nice journey up to Hebden Bridge as part of the investigation:

..”With its victorian sandstone houses apparently shaoed on a whim to fit the landscape, No directed him past the pretty market square on the main road towards the canal whree they parked up in a pub car park

Booktrailer Review

Susan: @thebooktrailer

There is a lot going on in this book but don’t take that as a criticism because it’s not. Liz manages to keep all the plates spinning so well I was in awe of the multi threaded stories interweaving in and out. The themes in the book are unsettling and I think even more so as they are reminiscent of recent cases we’ll all heard  in the news – historical child abuse cases, Asian men involved – this time being targeted as victims. Brexit even pops up and the general unsettling feeling the country is undergoing due to recent political turmoil.

It’s a gritty read – uncomfortable at times – but the detail and the meat on the bones if that’s not too graphic a term in this sense, is nicely done. It’s hardcore reading and it seems very very real. When the killer and the case seems to turn back and stare straight ahead at the officers in the case, well that just ramps things up even more.

Grit lit Bradford style
