What you need to know before your trail

When Kate sees a horrific attack streamed live on her laptop, she calls the police in a state of shock. But when they arrive, the video has disappeared – and she can’t prove anything. Desperate to be believed, Kate tries to find out who the girl in the video could be – and who attacked her.

Freddie and Nas are working on a missing persons case, but the trail has gone cold. When Kate contacts them, they are the only ones to listen and they start to wonder – are the two cases connected?

Travel Guide

The landscape of social media

The real landscape here is not really London although the story is set there. There is vague mention  of Hackney where Kate lives and Highbury and Canary Wharf gets a mention but only as a vague background to the story. The real setting here is the internet and videos which are posted on line. This is the scary, vague and dark setting of a story which could be anchored anywhere in the real world, but london does give it that gritty edge – areas where gangs roam and built up areas where tube stations cross the city in a maze like frenzy and there is a place amongst the takeaways and backstreets called Spice Road who deal in drugs.

Angela paints a dark picture of a police force dealing with all the daily crime it has to deal with in a major city whilst at the same time trying to make sense of the internet and live feeds on Periscope.
