What you need to know before your trail

DI Mike Yorke is coming back to his home turf of North East England. Holy Island to be precise as this is the setting for his first case since returning from London where he has been working. A viciously flogged corpse has been found on Holy Island and children seem to be disappearing up and down the A1.

For it’s on this island which boasts of a mystical past, and which is famed for the Lindisfarne gospels, that a secret which stretches back to the dawn of time will suddenly become unearthed and a woman will go on the run in the wilds of Northumbria.

Travel Guide

London

Mike Yorke has been working here and knows its streets well particularly its quirks such as the Clachan pub in Kingsly street. Known for its antiquated charm, little does he know that he will be involved in a case known for its antiquainted horror later on. He celebrates his last day in the capital here.

Holy Island

Holy Island under the pen of Sheila Quigley is a dark and mysterious place.

The famed Lindisfarne gospels have gone missing. These is an illuminated manuscript gospel book produced around the year 700 in a monastery off the coast of Northumberland at Lindisfarne and which can now be seen in the British Museum in London

The island is small – home to only around 160 people. This is as much a character as the characters themselves for it is isolated,  eerie when the winds whip the waters around its rocky shores or when the causeway to the mainland, to the only route of escape disappears under the cloak of the sea. There’s lots of places for intrigue and ancient mysticism to play out – The Lindisfarne Castle being only one of them.

The North Sea surrounds and observes everyone  like a prison guard would do to keep his prisoners in check.
