What you need to know before your trail

Following a tragedy,  ‘Simmy’ Brown has moved to the beautiful region of the Lake District to be nearer her parents. But she’s not going to be able to relax and recover for long as someone is soon found murdered in the lake. She was one of the last people to speak to the victim and so she soon becomes embroiled in the case as well as a major suspect herself.

Travel Guide

Most of the locations in this book are real from the hotel at Storrs Hall and the description of “Change over Saturday” when the tourists leave and the B & B’s empty and refill with guests. The day of the wedding itself is going to be busy despite the rain and the muted colours of the Lake District which have now become muted and grey. The hotel might be the height of lxury it is said but the real star of the show is the lake  – the outisde of the hotel is muted to resepect tjat but it was anoter matter inside.

What a beautiful place to get married and a chillingly cold one to get murdered. The hustle and bustle of the lakes surrounds it all – what with the tourists and the lake cruisers on their jaunts up and down the lake from Lakeside.

“Everybody knew everything in Windermere, Behind the throngs of Tourists, there was a small core of residents, both dreading and yearning for the few quiet weeks after Christmas when they could breathe more easily and compare notes.”

Is this the real lake district behind the tourist and relaxing facade? Even the art of flower selling and arranging seems to be a rather troubled affair  – a lot more complex that you might think. The art of the bed and breakfast business is really tricky and it’s a non stop conveyor belt of people in and out.

The rural wedding in a posh country hotel is nicely done – the isolated luxury, “the massive hotel gave plenty of scope for getting lost” and the crowds that just launch on the quiet of the lakes each and every day. Someone appears to be bumping people off at hotels dotted around the area so maybe there is something in that lake ‘that lies beneath’?
