What you need to know before your trail

1976. Loo and her sister Bee live in a run-down cottage in the middle of nowhere, with their artistic parents and wild siblings. Their mother, Cathy, had hoped to escape to a simpler life; instead the family find themselves isolated and shunned by their neighbours. At the height of the stifling summer, unexplained noises and occurences in the house begin to disturb the family, until they intrude on every waking moment . . .

NOW
Loo, now Lucy, is called back to her childhood home. A group of strangers are looking to discover the truth about the house and the people who lived there. But is Lucy ready to confront what really happened all those years ago?

Travel Guide

Travel to the Wayard landscape

The novel is set vaguely in the area close to Whitby. The local reporter from here goes out to investigate the reports of supernatural phenomena and the small town gets the odd mention.

The locations might be vague – the family talk about life before and after the farm where the spooky goings on take place – but Life before the farm is Leeds and after is Ipswich.

The main setting, fictional thank goodness, is Iron Sike Farm. Just as well it is fictional given what goes on here. You’ll never want to go in an old house anywhere near a farm ever again. Then there’s the knocking, and the marbles appearing as if from nowhere…

The house is spooky, empty, chilling and there is a heavy sense of foreboding on each and every page. Short sentences and sharp dialogue bring the claustrophobic, heavy atmosphere in the house to the fore.

The tagline is Is anybody there? Knock once for yes and knock twice for  no…
