The Silver Road is a real road which runs throughout northern Sweden amongst the villages and houses of the area. It’s a long and desolate place with trees bordering each side and nothing else for miles. It’s a lonely place and one where you can imagine Lelle driving up and down in the hope he will see his daughter again. This is the road from where she went missing.

“He knew every bend and every gap in the wildlife fencing that allowed moose and reindeer to cross if they had a mind to. He knew where rainwater collected on the surface and where mist drifted up from the tarns and distorted his vision. The road’s sole purpose had died with the closure of the silver mines, and it had become treacherous after years of neglect and deterioration.

“This was where she had disappeared. This road had swallowed up his daughter.”

The villages and towns in the book are real – the author herself is from Skellefteå – so she has captured the essence, the feel and the magic of the place as well as the landscape.
