When Eden’s sister’s body is finally found, floating in the sea, local police rule her death an accident, but Eden isn’t convinced. She was an experienced sailor and would never sail without a life jacket. Eden starts searching his sister’s life for answers, and what he discovers changes everything.
Teignmouth DEVON
Most of the novel is set here, a seaside town on the north bank of the River Teign. The port of Teignmouth, in existence since the 13th century, remains active, mostly handling clay, timber and grain.
The Teignmouth setting is strong and you will need a strong stomach for some of the scenes involving boats and peril at sea.
A cracking first episode in what is going to be a top series. William Shaw writes some cracking crime fiction and this is his best yet. A story that starts off as one thing and soon ends up something else entirely.
There were so many ingredients at first – a drowning, a missing boy for starters. But that was nothing compared to what came out afterwards. And oh my – that first chapter. Harrowing in so many ways. I’ve never been one for boats or water really and now I will be a bit nervous ie scared of getting on one after that. William – if you ever do a book launch on a boat, I don’t think I will make it!
A seriously good read. Gripping throughout. Just how I like my crime fiction with layers of intrigue. More please!
