Tragedy has a way of happening in the most unexpected of places. When Jamie, a travel guide, sets off on an assignment to Bali, all she has in mind is a great adventure, one of weeks spent on the beach and exploring the lush jungles and gorgeous sandy beaches. What she experiences however is a devastating terrorist attack in one of Bali’s famous nightclubs. This is not an experience which anyone can come out unchanged and it has serious repercussions on Jamie’s life.
One year on, Jamie returns to the city of promise and tragedy in the search for closure and to thank the man who saved her. And it’s then that she finds something most unexpected of all.

Imagine thinking you’re coming to paradise only to find that tragedy is just one step away. When Jamie gets caught up in the horrific Bali bombings, she is rescued by a mysterious man called Gabe who looks after her and offers the one hand of kindness amidst all the tragedy and disaster.
The beauty
At first Bali was a series of adventures, part of her job as a travel and adventure guide yes but it was also Jamie’s adventurous spirit being fed along the way. This is a country of immense beauty, deep culture and stunning architecture. Its people are kind and its a welcoming place to be. Its beauty shines through the writing:

The bombings
From this beauty, on a return journey to face her fears, we relive in part the evening of the bombings and the sheer horrific consequences and scars on a persons mind. The confusion, the fear, the noise, smoke and everything else is portrayed but it’s the renewal and hope that resurfaces. It’s a remarkable place to go back to if you had experienced what Jamie and so many others did, but it’s a journey of strength above all else.
