In the shadowy aisles of the Lamplighter’s Bookshop, secrets lie as thick as the dust…
When Evelyn Seaton answers an advertisement for an assistant at a forgotten bookshop in York, she is not the only one with something to hide.
There she meets the enigmatic and prickly William Morton, an aspiring writer keeping secrets of his own. But when the walls that Evelyn has built around herself start to crumble, there is only one person she can turn to.
As the layers are brushed away, can Evelyn and William find the courage to write the next chapter of their story?
York
York leaps from the page in this novel as we go back to 1899 and the days where women flock to the old station hotel for their latest ball. Hansom cabs in the cobbled streets and gentlemen wearing top hats are all the rage.
Porthaven House and Riccal Hall are both fictional but very believable. The most wonderful location is of course the bookshop on Foss Bridge. It sits alongside many other traders but this one stands out for the magical stories within. Sadly fictional, there are a few bookshops it could be – namely the Minster Bookshop and the Little Apple Bookshop noted for their quirky style and books piled on top of each other. The Minster store in particular has creaky stairs and low ceilings and lots of nooks and crannies stuffed with books waiting to be discovered!
