As Cora continues her recovery on a farm in the beautiful Norfolk countryside, tragedy strikes her family and she moves back to London with her new guardian, Eliza.
Here they live a happy, if simple, life. But, as the Second World War approaches, and the past comes knocking, everything changes.
Will Cora be able to escape the inevitable, or is she destined to repeat her parents’ mistakes?

A city undergoing the problems and chaos of war. Children evacuated from cities to the country, schools closed and work places changed for ever as women go out to work as the men fight on the front line .The noise, the chaos and the dirt of the London streets and the bomb shelters.
This is then contrasted with the save haven of Norfolk and the farm there. Located in the area of California next to Great Yarmouth, this is one of the areas the children are shipped out to. It’s not in America despite what Cora might think!
