What you need to know before your trail

They have taken DS Aector McAvoy’s family.

They have taken DCI Colin Ray’s foundation.

They have taken DS Trish Pharaoh’s fight.

Now the ruthless criminal network that has tightened its stranglehold on Hull intends to take everything that remains from those who dare to stand in its way.

Taking Pity is a police procedural thriller that pulls no punches. It is the story of three officers who can take no more, and a merciless nemesis that takes no chances, no prisoners and no pity.

McAvoys Guide to Hull

Hebdon Road pub ( close to HMP Hull)

A squat green pub which has six customers with 23 teeth between them. It’s not a sophisticated establishment and sits not far from HMP Hill

The bar does well out of the prison’s guards apparently

Hull Police

Pharaoh’s senior office knows Hull from way back. It’s changed since his day of course but the city is still the one he knows like the back of his hand. Clough Road and the concrete brick it resembles seems not to have changed though.

Newland Park

Scene of the crime in this novel but normally a nice, well to do area:

“Hull doesn’t have many luxurious neighbourhoods. Newland Park is part of a truly exclusive club. Most of the people with money in East Yorkshire move out to the towns and villages. Hull itself is a virtual sink estate for a much larger region”
