Iditarod and the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race

Libby Riddles moved to Alaska just before her 17th birthday. She saw a sprint race and it was that moment that she fell in love with mushing. After that she became heavily involved with the sport and took part in many races which she won. She later started to breed dogs and train them but she couldn’t forget the thrill of racing so in 1985 she entered the famous Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, and was the first woman to do so.

Since Libby Riddles won the race in the way she did and was the first woman to do so, her achievements have been marked in the “Hall of Fame” in the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame.
