What you need to know before your trail

GP Holly Graham  relocates her family to join the team at The Practice at Larkford, hoping to find the peaceful life she craves. She does come with two year old twins though so the level of peace she’s going to get is dubious. She’s going to try and keep her private and professional life separate but well, let’s just say there’s more than one fly on the wall and a dozen grapevines in the village at large.

The new GP surgery is busy and full of life…as well as ailments of course. Dishy doctors, devious Doctors and dasterdly ones all work here. One is working beside  his ex which isn’t ideal.

Then there’s the patients – Elsie – the most famous patient as well as resident. Now she could tell you a thing or two – and  she does tell the doctors whether they want to hear or not!

Welcome to Larkford.

Travel Guide

Larkford

Sadly not a real place as we imagine there would be  a rush on to go and live there and to head straight to the GP surgery in order to find a nice hunk. The small village is centered around its GP surgery and all who live and work there. It’s a bit like the BBC drama Doctors but in book form what with the day to day lives of the patients, the doctors and the locals. There is probably more dramas and strange ailments here as various people come in and out of the surgery asking about their problems and older people chatting about their lives.

It does seems the ideal place for Holly to move to and  have a better quality of life for herself and her two sons. She’s used to working in a hospital and so is keen to get started in a new role. And Larkford seems and sounds so pretty from the novel that you’ll be jealous after only a few pages!

When yu move to a new village, it’s always good to know someone and so since best friend Lizzie already lives there, Holly has a ready made friend and point of contact. Not so sure about the characters she meets at the surgery though – well dishy doctor Dan is a nice face to see every morning. There is quite a mix of doctors and nurses at the surgery!

Having said that about the doctors, if you have ever watched Doctors on BBC or indeed GPs Through Closed Doors, sometimes the most interesting characters are the patients themselves. Old ladies who seem just as keen to talk about the weather or ailments in general, real or imagined, rather than visit a doctor for a medical reason.

Elsie is that woman. But sometimes you need a tonic of another kind when you visit a doctor  – a pill of common sense and a spoonful of courage should just about do it! A visit to Larkford is the cure for many ailments.
