What you need to know before your trail

Tucked away between the glitter-strewn Monte Carlo and the red carpets of Cannes’ red carpets, Bellevue-sur- Mer, is a quiet unassuming place on the French Riviera.

Or is it.

The inhabitants of Bellevue sur Mer on the French Riviera might not live in Cannes but many would say that they belong on the stage. One of them really believes she does – actress Sally who is an actress herself and who really wants to get involved with the glitz and glamour ‘down the road’. The Cannes film festival is in town – and Sally is heading its way. She’s wants the lights. cameras and if she’s honest, the love action as well.

Meanwhile, there’s four of the locals who want to open a local old Building as a restaurant – every expat’s dream but it soon starts to leave more than a bitter taste in their mouths.

With the expats on one side of the village and the actress and the glitter on the other, the real place of activity seems to be the little village of Bellevue-sur-Mer rather than anything outside!

Travel Guide

“The small town of Bellevue-Sur-Mer is nestled in a neat inlet on the Mediterranean, in that south east corner of France known to the British as the French Riviera and to the natives as the Cote d’Azur.”

A fictional setting but one which could be Beaulieu-sur-Mer judging by the name.  We think this might be the inspiration for the fictional Bellevue-sur-mer. If not its a nice excuse to visit!

French Riviera

This is a lovely place and the ideal place for a range of expats – colouful, gay, exuberant and stage loving cast of characters. Some are taken up with renovating an old building and making it into the restaurant of their dreams. drawing in locals and tourists alike.

But with “cafes galore, little art galleries, a small casino, beaches both private and public, pleasure boats and a port de plaisance, picturesque old houses and the snow capped mountains of the Alps behind it all, it really does sound like the picture postcard of the Riviera region.

Cannes

Home of the film festival and the love affairs of the stars. The red carpets and the Boulevard de la Croisette, the gleaming hot sun to the pier and the elegant old port, this is the setting for the lights, camera action of the novel.
