Travel Guide

Hampshire – Jane Austen’s early life

The author says:

Miss Austen Investigates is set in Hampshire, where Jane Austen grew up.  The setting is very important as I wanted to capture how much Hampshire shaped Austen. She was very productive all through her years at Steventon Rectory, and was devastated when her father decided to retire and move the family to Bath.

It’s also very important to me. I grew up in central London but, by happy accident, spent a few months living in rural Hampshire in my late teens at the same time as I first discovered Austen. I was based just down the road from Jane Austen’s House in Chawton – and this experience definitely contributed to my lifelong love of Austen. I really wanted to capture the beauty of the Hampshire countryside in the novel, but also the sense of being cut off from the rest of the world and feeling stranded.

Booktrailer Review

What a fun and exciting way to immerse yourself into the world of Jane  Austen. Thinking of her writing novels is one thing, but also wanting to find out the identity of a murderer is something else.

The book is witty, well-written and nicely paced with a great sense of time and place. I read it over the weekend when I wasn’t feeling very well and it really cheered me up! It was a great reading experience and I loved every moment.
