What you need to know before your trail

Part crime story part fantasy – It is based on the real life murder trial of Jim Williams, a Savannah antiques dealer accused of murdering his supposed gay lover Danny Hansford

A lot of the book is dedicated to the details of Williams’s trials, the book is much more than that. It is rather a collection of stories about the people and history of Savannah – some true, some not so true and some completely made up. It could also be described as a somewhat ‘unique’ travelogue.

The cover art for the book is The bird girl of Bonaventure Cemetery.

Travel Guide

Savannah, Georgia

So fantastic are the booktrailing possibilities from this book that there are several good Savannah heritage tours based on the book and the movie.

The Cemetery of course is the focus of any visit to Savannah to see the cover art in real life. Walking around here and the surrounding area gives a feel for the story and as a true life tale, it is not hard to find literary and historic footprints of the novel and the people involved. The famous Bird Girl statue is no longer there but has been removed to the Telfair museum in Savannah.

The Mercer Williams house is a must visit to see the grandeur of one of the homes that Jim Williams bought and restored to its former glory.
