What you need to know before your trail

Police frogmen are used to finding all sorts of deadly secrets in the Thames, but this time the body of a MI5 operative as well as that of Nikolai Sereyev, an MI5 informer and mid-level player in a Russian criminal organisation, are very dangerous finds indeed.

Andrew Harvey is tasked with finding his colleague’s killer, and quickly uncovers a plot to assassinate a visiting dignitary on British soil. He gets into the case but soon finds events spiralling out of his control. Finding himself a pawn in a game of international brinkmanship was not something he expected at all. And this game has links all the way to the Kremlin

Harvey’s girlfriend, Sarah, also a secret service operative, goes in search of him but it’s clear to security chief Veronica Ellis  that there is only one man who can help.

The trouble is, Tom Gray has gone to ground. Finding him is just the beginning

Travel Guide

London

The Thames is the final resting place for Mi5 operatives and informers and it’s from this dank prison that the mystery unfolds from
This leads to the Russian connection in the city and the finding of Alexi Bessonov. The link to Russia is ever growing and it’s this dark and shady world that starts to open up at the banks of the Thames with Mi5 overlooking it.

Tagrilistan

Of course a fictional country for obvious reasons – but there’s a threat that the country’s head of state will be assassinated on reaching London. This has repercussions internationally as Tagrilistan is fighting insurgents on its home turf, and those are backed by Russia, unofficially of course. Harvery is kidnapped and taken here believing him to be a British spy.

Tagrilistan is situated in the Middle East and used to be part of Russia. There are several ‘Stan’ countries which could have inspired it, but the booktrail has put Russian on the map for the obvious links to the plot. Russian intervention in the Ukraine is also of course a link to the background of the story

Booktrailer Review

Clare: @thebooktrailer

If fast paced adventures are your thing, then this is quite the book for you. It’s fierce and never stops from the minute you pick it up. And it’s a meaty read, that’s for sure. There’s an awful lot packed into this book but it never feels too much – it’s more of one full meaty sandwich that you sink your teeth into only to find new flavours you didn’t know were there as well as well as finding that it’s very moreish.

Right enough of the sandwich imagery, it’s the themes of the book which really attracted me. This is a world and a series of settings that really shock for if its not political corruption, it’s intrigue, killings, assassinations and a fight for the truth. Danger all around – and that’s an understatement. Despite the shocks and the violence, this has real backstory to it and some very interesting characters. It’s a great adventure all round.

Phew!
