Girls Night Out

Girls Night Out

Why a Booktrail?

2000s: A girly holiday to Tulum Mexico sounds lovely right?

  • ISBN: 978-1503902565
  • Genre: Psychological

What you need to know before your trail

For estranged friends Ashley, Natalie, and Lauren, where better to repair those severed ties than on a girls’ getaway to the beautiful paradise of Tulum, Mexico?

Well that’s the idea at least as there is an awful lot of baggage going on this holiday and not just that in the suitcases!  When Ashley disappears on their girls’ night out, Natalie and Lauren have to try to piece together their hazy memories to figure out what could have happened to her, while also reconciling their feelings of guilt over their last moments together.

As the clock ticks, hour by hour, Natalie and Lauren’s search rushes headlong into growing suspicion and dread. Maybe their secrets run deeper and more dangerous than one of them is willing—or too afraid—to admit.

Travel Guide

Tulum Mexico

Tulum is a town on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. It’s known for its beaches and well-preserved ruins of an ancient Mayan port city. A great place for a holiday and an escape from your problems. Well, not in this book exactly but…

The authors stayed in the Encantada hotel, when researching the novel. They also travelled to Chichen Itza where the characters take a tour in the story and soaked up the history and culture of the area where the Maya civilisation once stood.

“Tulum is a wonderful city” she says. One we will visit many more times. Unlike the characters we created we felt very safe while there(Even when we took a wrong turn and walked tow miles the wrong way in triple-digit heat!)We highly suggest visitng the following:

Encantada hotel

Stay in the hotel the authors did and read the book they researched here!

Be sure to take a yoga class at Maya Tulum

Have a meal at Hartwood, Ziggy’s, La Zebra and Posada Margherita

“Hartwood’s menu changes daily based on the sea an land that offer us new harvests each day”

Have a smoothie at Playa Canek

Have a smoothie bowl at Raw Love

Be sure to go to Batey – the best nightlife in Tulum

Chechen Itza

Bike around the city and be sure to visit Chechen Itza – and have a mezcal. This is the famous archaeological site with excavated ruins of the large Maya city, including an iconic step pyramid.

Booktrailer Review

Susan: @thebooktrailer

There’s a lot to chew over with this novel. A girls holiday, fractured relationships, the one who feels left out and hard done by in the group. We’ve all experienced at least one of these throughout our life and so can identify with at least one of the characters. We also know someone who resembles another character!

Escaping to Tulum in Mexico sounds ideal but of course on holiday, everything changes including relationship dynamics. When one girl goes missing…well all hell breaks loose and the focus is now on the girls left behind…

This is quite an intense look at friendships and what happens when things go wrong. There are some lighter moment of course such as the name of the company the girls are involved in. Well BlowMe if the name is not just a little tongue in cheek. But let’s me grown up about this and wonder what we would do if our friend went missing…

What made this book for me was the plotting and the lead up to the day when the girl goes missing, the dynamics of the group, the clues that lead to the answer of what might have gone wrong.(It could be a bit confusing on a kindle so watch out for that) There’s a lot to take in and to work out with the girls and their relationships but the authors drip feed until a clearer picture comes into view.

It’s all very cloak and dagger and the paradise environment makes this even more chilling. The girls are away from home, their circle of friends, home comforts and everything is unfamiliar…. I say paradise but this book won’t be in the Tulum tourist shops anytime soon! It doesn’t give the place the best of ratings and makes it clear that it’s not the place for women to go…good for the book of course, but not in real life!

Bring on the next one – but before that, read this on a girlie holiday somewhere on a beach for maximum effect!
