When Agatha is taken to the London theatre by an old friend, she finds herself embroiled in a mystery surrounding the sudden death of one of the dancers. Reluctantly at first, she is drawn into the investigation, and unearths a world where nothing is what it seems and where everyone is performing a role. But in helping to reveal the true murderer, she finds herself shedding light on the concealed truths of her own work – and her own life too.

The London of Agatha Christie – this fictional one at least – starts off her adventures by having a tea at Fortnum and Mason. Start as you mean to go on! She’ll need something stronger than tea however as the case of a murder in a theatre will see to that.
Theatreland
The theatre in the novel is fictional of course but is just off the Strand as the Adelphi Theatre is today. This theatre is well known for its 1930s ornate style and would be a great place for a play or ballet as in the novel. Imagine the aroma and essence inside this theatre – the greasepaint, the history….
Dance, mime and magic make up the rest of the city – from theatreland to the less artistic Scotland Yard and a short jaunt to Cardiff for a literary dinner.
